Blog Entry #2

I think it means that if you're going to try to persuade someone, you are going to have to have some reason and logic. Then, that will lead you through some well-reasoned arguments to a conclusion, but not much is going to be done. Something that can relate is the world hunger issue. People will have good points and plans to try to stop world hunger but not much is done anyways.

History Through Film

After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?
Well, I have realized that there is a lot of stuff that I didn't know about the film industry. About what goes into making the movie and all the little important details that matter a lot. For me, all this stuff is just getting more and more interesting. I mean I don't really want much to do with the film industry , but having the discussions in class just makes me think pretty hard about most things and I like that.

Are movies a social danger or social benefit?
They can be both honestly. Because they can have people rally around an idea after like documentaries and certain films. But they can cause people to do some dumb stuff. After certain people watch movies, they think they can do anything the guy or girl in the movie was doing. They just don't have that sense of reality and it can lead them to certain dangers. Like someone trying to be a hero and thinking they can do anything and it most likely won't work. That's where the danger comes in.

What are your thoughts about taking the class History Through Film?
- When I first saw this class for an option for me to take, I wanted to be apart of it. I totally had a different thought about the class right away. I thought it was it was going to show history though pictures and film, but I like the way the class is set up way better. I've always really liked talking about movies and film, because Dom I get into too much arguments about this stuff. Plus, being able to watch movies is a big bonus.

What do you hope to get out of this class and what strength do you bring to the class that will help us all progress forward as we learn?
- I hope to get a better education about the history of film. I mean I watch a lot of movies and I've kind of paid attention to the effects and animations, but I want to get a better understanding on them. My strength would be that I have seen a lot of movies, and I've seen how the effects and animations have grown over the past 30 years. Even though I wasn't alive, I've been able to see what has happened and I think I can help people have a better understanding of that.
